TRENTON — A Paterson physician had to suspend his practice as he faces charges of groping female patients and employees. There’s an escalating pattern in his sexual misconduct in the past three years, Attorney General Robert Lougy said on Monday.

State investigators claim that Alex Sarkodie touched and licked a patient’s breast while performing physical examination on her. He groped another medical assistant’s breast, and also smacked an employee’s buttocks. Lougy’s announcement said that he also used to say lewd comments to employees and patients.
As per Lougy’s announcement, the doctor exhibited this sexually abusive behavior between May 2013 to March 2016.
Sarkodie was reached by phone on Monday, but he did not want to discuss his suspension. The office was also kept closed as per the message playing on the answering machine.
Jef Henninger, doctor’s attorney, said that he will fight the charges put on him. He said that the doctor had only agreed to the suspension, but did not admit anything. He had, in fact filed an answer denying the charges, according to what Henninger said in his email.
As per the website for the Board of Medical Examiners, which is state’s doctor licensing and disciplinary body, Sarkodie is an internist and pediatrician who received his license in New Jersey in 2000.
Lougy said in his announcement that the medical board has scheduled to hear his case on July 13. Sarkodie has agreed to return his license and not see patients until the investigation is completed in the matter.
Lougy said in his statement that patients should be treated with respect and professionalism and not subjected to sexual assaults by predators hiding behind their medical degrees. He said that he would leave no stone unturned to combat doctors who abuse their privileges by preying on patients.
The Enforcement Bureau of the Division of Consumer Affairs had conducted this investigation.
