Dr. Clara Etheridge

Dr. Clara Etheridge allegedly told a female patient that dark forces and evil spirits were tracking her via her jewelry, when the patient had been diagnosed with multiple personality disorder. The Laguna Beach psychologist had her license revoked by state medical regulators. They accused her of sexual misconduct, being mentally ill and using satanic rituals when treating a patient. She asked the patient to use lemon juice after showers, and to burn all pictures and letters from her mother as well as her Bible.
Etheridge had been practicing for 17 years. When she was confronted with the charges, she completely denied them. However, two other psychologists and a medical doctor gave statements corroborating the alleged victim’s claims. The patient was treated by Etheridge from the 3rd of February to the 5th of April 1988.
During one of the therapy sessions, Etheridge apparently kissed the patient on the cheek and forehead, besides holding her for two hours as they lay on the floor. She also caressed her hair and placed the hand of the patient on her own genital area. She also told her that Orange County psychiatric hospitals were unsafe because they were all infiltrated by the occult. She also kept the patient’s jewelry and earrings in salt one time.
