My wife answered a call, thinking it was one she expected. The caller (a male) said he was from the Springfield, Illinois Fire Department and was soliciting a contribution to a charity. During the conversation, the caller asked my wife if she could hear him. Unfortunately, she said yes. She refused to make a contribution, but by that time, the damage was already done. Undoubtedly he recorded my wife’s “yes” to use as a scam in cramming our telephone bill or in some other manner to steal money from us.
