I am a property manager at a Section 8 property in Georgia and have a senior resident who keeps getting VERY frequent, unsolicited phone calls from individuals offering medical supplies (knee braces, back braces, etc). This resident says that she has repeatedly told the callers that she does not want/need any of the supplies they are offering; however, they have started sending her packages with these unwanted supplies. When she receives more calls she tells these individuals to stop sending her these supplies only for them to hang up on her. She says that she never receives a call from the same number– always various different numbers but same rhetoric. I noticed another property posted a similar situation in which that property customarily accepted packages for residents and unknowingly signed to accept a package of unsolicited medical supplies. Same as that property, we have customarily accepted packages and I have unknowingly signed to accept packages on two occasions that contained these unsolicited medical supplies. When the resident tries to return the package she is told that she has to pay to return the items (since they were signed for/received). Obviously the resident does not want to pay to return items she requested NOT be sent. I have no way of knowing whether a package is legitimate or a scam, so we too are having to revisit our policies regarding accepting packages. In the mean time, there is no traceable name of an agency to report for who is ordering these supplies. The medical supplies were shipped from "Sandy Shores Medical Inc"– when I called today on behalf of this resident, the medical supply company indicated that they would send a return address label.
