I was contacted via email and told that my resume was selected, from a ziprecruiter.com, for immediate hire. I interviewed on Google Hangouts. I was made an offer of employment. I accepted the offer and returned the W-4 an d USCIS I-9 forms via email. Then I was asked to deposit a check into my account for the purchase of working materials. It was at this point that I became convinced this opportunity was too good to be true. The company did have a real website and other online presence but there was something that just didn’t seem right. I haven’t loss money yet but I fear my identity is in jeopardy. Perhaps, the company is real but the offer is a scam. I was very uncomfortable when the check arrived; it had no apparent affiliation to the company.
